The Family Court sits at 3 locations in Greater Manchester.

The Designated Family Centre is situated at Manchester Civil Justice Centre in central Manchester. All types of family work are conducted there, including care and adoption proceedings.

Family Hearing Centres can be found in Stockport and Wigan. Cases relating to where children should live and who they should spend time with account for much of the work carried out at these courts. The Family Court consists of lay justices, Legal Advisors, District Judges, Circuit Judges and High Court Judges supported by a large number of trained and dedicated clerks and administrative staff. Each day new applications are considered by a Judge and a Legal Advisor and allocated to the tier of the Family Court which is appropriate to the issues involved.
